Inspiration: Windows With a View

Living in a city has always been a dream of mine, and I'm so lucky that I'll be able to achieve that dream this year! One of the main perks of living in a city is of course the view. I imagine huge, open windows that will let the sunlight in to wake you up in the morning and reveal the night life when you can't fall asleep (the city never sleeps). Whether you can view it from your bed, bath, desk or balcony, an apartment with a view can't be beat.

The Edit: Current Favorites

I want to start doing a collection of my favorite interior design photographs every week / month or so as an addition to The Edit series. Here is what I've been loving so far!

Style: Tropical Desert Garden / Urban Jungle

One look I've been obsessing over lately has a lot to do with plants. They could be tropical, jungle or desert - it doesn't matter. Plants bring life to any space, whether they're real or fake or wallpaper (my favorite being the famous Beverly Hills Hotel Martinique print, as seen in Danielle Bernstein's NYC loft).

Plants can be a lot of work to care for, so I recommend buying succulents and cacti. Just go to your local florist or garden shop and you will find a plethora of choices. Personally, I love the colorful cacti and flower shaped succulents. I will definitely be purchasing a few before I go off to university. But, if you have more time (if you want to purchase a real plant) and space on your hands, tropical plants are absolutely perfect in my eyes!

Fashion Favorites: Spring 2015 Couture

The Spring 2015 Couture fashion shows have just finished in Paris, and I would love to share my favorite looks from each show with you! I absolutely adored Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and Jean Paul Gaultier this year, they were each so on point and showcased some amazing looks. Also worth noting is the blue dress from Dior and the fluffy looks from Giambattista Valli. I predict we will see a lot of these couture pieces on red carpets and wedding aisles during 2015.

Inspiration: Vosges Paris

Vosges Paris has been one of my greatest inspirations recently. Run by the Amsterdam based, stylish blogger Desiree Groenendal, the blog's posts are very clean, modern, monochrome and urban inspired. Personally, I am most inspired by her Amsterdam apartment, which is featured in the first interior design book I ever purchased (and one that I have mentioned before) - Design Bloggers at Home. I lover her clothes rack and various text posters, which I will definitely use as my inspiration for my dorm room / dream apartment.

The first two photos of my picks from her are what she calls "perfect pictures," and I have to agree. I believe they are both from the same apartment and different angles of the same desk. I love the beat up wooden floors, huge photographs, clean white walls and contrasting window panels. These "perfect pictures" will serve as inspiration for many posts to come.

The Edit: H&M Home

H&M is one of my favorite fashion brands, and I adore their Home Collection as well. Though they don't have much furniture, I love their little knick knacks, candles, bed spreads, storage and pillows. H&M Home is a perfect place to go dorm room shopping, or if you want to make your house more of a home with little tchotchkes to add some character.

H&M Home uses lots of copper and rose gold accents too, which is my absolute favorite metal, along with striped and textured items. Though they may seem very simple, if you get a little closer and combine all the different materials and styles, you have something that's so much more than it seems. Below are some of my favorite design shots of theirs, and here are some more links to my favorite products (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Style: Exposed Brick Loft

This is my favorite picture of any interior of all time. It's even my iPhone lock screen. This picture embodies everything I've ever wanted from an apartment. I love the bed, the skin rug, the exposed brick covered in photographs, the cute little stand and the stairs leading up to a rolling rack wardrobe. It's simply perfection for me, and it inspires my blogging every day.

The key feature in this loft, and my favorite lofts, is the exposed brick. It adds a certain industrial and vintage feel to the place. Combined with hardwood floors, a chandelier, succulents here and there and what I'm sure is an amazing view of a city, flipped loft apartments like these are my favorite interiors. Below are some more photos that inspire me with their exposed brick details.

Inspiration: SF Girl by Bay

Another blog that I stumbled across when first getting into the interior design blogosphere was SF Girl by Bay. Run by Victoria Smith, the blog is features "bohemian modern style." It's full of fresh, bright interiors that are mashups of both old and new pieces and details.

She, like My Scandinavian Home, is featured in the book Design Bloggers at Home by Ellie Tennant, and I learned a lot of amazing tips from her. She bought a lot of her furniture at amazing prices through Etsy, yard sales and Target. Victoria is proof that you can have a stylish home that is true to your aesthetic while still staying inside a tight budget (you just need a little innovation and determination).

Here are some of my favorite shots from her blog.

The Edit: Urban Outfitters

As I am attending university next year, I think about what I want my dorm room to look like a lot. One of the shops that inspires me the most is Urban Outfitters! I imagine it to be like the rebellious, bohemian teenage daughter of Anthropologie that always wants to go to Coachella.

Here are some of my current favorites from Urban! They aren't as home oriented as Anthropologie (their home section is called "Apartment" online), so my picks are mostly for the bedroom and living room. My favorites are the black and white American flag, the rolling clothes rack and the white stag bust. But here are some other favorites that aren't featured below (1, 2, 3).

Style: Parisian

For as long as I can remember, I've been obsessed with all things Parisian. I was lucky enough to visit the incredible city last year, which only deepened my love for French culture. When I got into interior design, that love expanded for Parisian style interiors.

Parisian style is lavish and detailed, but not overly so. It doesn't show off - it's hidden in the details: chandeliers, velvet, iron bases, white out rococo/baroque ceilings, plush couches, wooden floors, golden mirrors, ostentatious fireplaces, detailed ottomans, balconies and huge beds. If my dream of living in Paris came true, these photos would serve as my interior inspiration.

Inspiration: My Scandinavian Home

The first interior design blog I ever heard of was My Scandinavian Home, and it has been downhill from there ever since. Behind the blog is Niki Brantmark. I recently purchased the book Design Bloggers at Home, in which her home is profiled. She notes her love for white walls and how they bring a light, airy feel to any place. On her blog, white walls are a staple.

You will also find apartment and home photographs from all over the world, but all of them are very minimalistic, cozy and have fairly neutral color schemes. Here are some of my favorite shots from My Scandinavian Home that look like the dream apartment I've imagined for years.

The Edit: Anthropologie

As I said in my previous post, I am in love with everything Anthropologie. I spent hours on their site the other day saving my favorite items and decorating the little apartment in my head! I found some great pieces that I would love to share with you. I'll show you my bedroom, office, bathroom, kitchen, dining room and living room favorites. Enjoy, and let me know which item is your favorite in the comments.

Style: Eclectic Mix

Lately, I've been loving eclectic interior styles. Simple, minimalist, open spaces filled with a mixture of vintage, colorful, opulent and modern pieces. There are no boundaries. It gives you a chance to showcase your true style and give life and character to your home. I love the chandeliers, canopy beds, colorful sofas, elaborate rugs, embroidered cushions, succulents and metallic accents.

To achieve this style, Anthropologie is by far the best place to shop (I have linked some of what I believe their best products to be above). Their pieces are so unique and they have an extensive variety of choices. From the bed to the bath and the dining room to the living room, Anthropologie has you covered. Though it is rather pricey, I find amazing things in their sale section that would be perfect for the little apartment I decorate in my head.

Here are some of my favorite photos of eclectic interior designs.

Inspiration: WeWoreWhat

For my constant source of inspiration, I turn to fashion blogger Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat. Her Instagram feed is filled with interior design photographs and furniture finds that make me want to get my own apartment and decorate!

I've been following her for about three years now, and I love each and every one of her posts. She just moved into a new loft apartment, so lately a lot of her posts have been interior design related, but I also love all the cute little cafés and shops she visits. Here are some of my favorite pictures of hers that are currently giving me the most inspiration.
